After a long winter, seeds sprout, flowers begin to bloom, the sun warms the earth and there is a sense of renewal and new life all around — spring has arrived. In the cycle of nature, spring is always the new year. You can take advantage of the new, fresh, and cleansing aspects of this season by cleaning the most important home of all — your body. Spring is a season of shedding winter in exchange for new beginnings, it is one of the most natural times of the year to cleanse since the body is ready and willing to shed what we do not need anymore.
We absorb many toxins — preservatives, pesticides, stimulants, and heavy metals — through food, water, and air. Also, your own body produces toxins as a natural result of processes like digestion and respiration. Luckily, your digestive, endocrine, and circulatory systems come equipped with a complex set of mechanisms designed to eliminate these toxins through your mouth, eyes, skin, colon, urinary tract — even your breath. The trouble is that too much sugar, caffeine, alcohol, processed foods, little-to-no exercise, and stress can slow the body’s natural detox functions to a sluggish pace. The result is a buildup of toxins that can leave you fatigued and suffering from poor digestion, which may even lead to disease.
We will learn in this workshop how you can boost the innate detox functions of your body by following certain nutritional guidelines, adding in a detox practice, and by practising special cleansing yoga sequences. Ayurveda rests on the premise that the digestive system is at the root of vital health. A clean and clear digestive system equals greater health, clarity, consciousness and vitality.
The benefits of incorporating a spring detox/cleanse and yoga practice into your life are to:
- gain more energy
- stimulate the removal of toxins to promote healing
- boost your metabolism
- help you become more sensitive to true feelings of hunger and the effect that food has on your mood, spirit and physical body
- improved digestion
- lowered heart rate
- clearer eyes & skin
- better memory and concentration
- better sleep
- weight loss
- reduced pain
- a calm, clear mind resulting from improved health of the body
In this workshop we will:
- learn why spring is the ideal time to cleanse and detoxify your body
- learn what foods will help cleanse your body and what foods to focus on to enhance the vibrancy and vitality that springs brings
- talk about how to cleanse/detox to help give your body and mind the fresh start this season can bring

About Nikki Pichert
Nikki discovered yoga in 2006 after many years of competitive triathlon racing, swimming, and surfing, and fell in love with this ancient tradition that aims to bring balance and harmony to the body, mind, heart and spirit. Since then, she has studied extensively with her Ashtanga Yoga teachers, Rolf Naujokat in Goa, India and Sharath Jois in Mysore, India.
In March 2010, she was authorized by the Sri. K. Pattabhi Jois Ashtanga Yoga Institute in Mysore, India to teach the traditional Ashtanga Vinyasa System. In August 2014, she was authorized at the second level.
Nikki continued to travel to India for an extended period of time on 8 occasions, to deepen her studies of the holistic practice of yoga under the guidance of her teachers Rolf Naujokat and Sharath Jois. She has had the fortunate opportunity to teach yoga in Canada, Australia, India, and Japan, helping others discover the healing effects of yoga.
Nikki teaches with eternal gratitude and reverence for her teachers and hopes to pass on any knowledge she has gained through studying with them and her own experience of yoga. She has found that no matter where in the world, profound benefits for the body, mind and spirit can be gained when bringing awareness to the breath, then connecting this breath with movement. It has been a humbling experience for her to discover through her own practice and teaching that Yoga has the capacity to bring calmness, peace, clarity, acceptance and surrender in one’s life, if one is willing to give it a try. She has found this transformational practice of Yoga to be an immensely useful tool in becoming more aware of the richness and beauty in our daily lives, and hopes to share this spark of awakening with her students.
